The Mosman Park Sisterhood Conference was officially launched in August 2022. A Welcome to Country took place by Ms. Sarina Sullivan who also shared with the guests the vision for the conference – women of all ages and backgrounds to connect and come together in the spirit of unity. Approximately 65 participants came together to connect and consult on ways they can contribute to the well-being of Mosman Park. The space provided an opportunity where friendships could be strengthened and new ones could be formed; as a result, the collective identity of women in Mosman Park strengthened. The spirit of the day was filled with joy and hope for what can be achieved through these bonds of friendship.
The main themes of the conference program included ‘Vision and Distance Traversed’, ‘Role of Women in Educational Endeavours’ and ‘Social Transformation’. The day was enriched through devotions from multi-faith backgrounds and philosophies, musical presentations, panels of women sharing their own life experiences, and art/creative stations including a group mural, wreath making and card making. Small group discussion circles were the centre piece for women to connect and explore the topics together.
The core conference working group consisted of seven members, each member or two were also assigned to a sub-working group to look after specific tasks for the conference. Overall, there were over 40 people of various ages and backgrounds engaged at various levels to bring the conference together.
Some remarks from the participants are quoted below:
Connecting with multigenerational (women) and hearing their insights. When women come together, we are powerful.
The importance of learning and the role of the women.
How there is community among us all for wanting to create a world that supports the needs of younger generations.
